Community Involvement

The community will play a significant role in Children’s master planning process. The intent of the City of Seattle’s Major Institution Master Plan code is to balance the needs of the institution to develop health care facilities with the need to minimize the impact of development on the surrounding community.

Ways to be involved
  • Citizens Advisory Committee meetings: Members of the community are encouraged to attend regularly scheduled meetings and share feedback. If you can’t attend CAC meetings, you are still welcome to share your feedback by contacting Steve Sheppard, City of Seattle Department of Neighborhoods.
  • Public comment: There will be a formal comment period when the Draft Master Plan and Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) are issued in spring 2008. Please contact Scott Ringgold, City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development, if you’d like to be notified when the DEIS is issued.

Children’s Hospital developed models of the proposed development and shared them at the Laurelhurst Community Center in October 2007. To learn more about community perspectives, the hospital also held two community meetings early in the master planning process, in spring 2007.
